This year, an incredible lineup of six Filipino films will be screened competing in the 2018 edition of the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) beginning on June 29, 2018. This is double the number of competing Filipino features last year.

The Golden Age of Philippine Cinema had two phases. The first was from post-war 1940s to the 1950s, when auteurs brought more artistic techniques and mature stories to the silver screen. The second phase occurred between the 1970s and 1980s, when films that both stood defiant against the administration and explored the boundaries of the art form with more experimental fare sought favor among the masses.

Treb Monteras II’s “Respeto” finally gets some respect abroad. The Cinemalaya winner bagged three trophies—best film, director, and the Audience Choice Award—at the 16th Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival in the Mediterranean island-nation on April 28.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam has been rolling out the lineup for its 2018 edition (January 24 through February 4) in quick spurts over the past few weeks, and it’s far from complete.
